6. Monarch Events and PVP

There are 5 stages in the Monarch Event, found in Event Center.  Stages 1-4 are always mixed up between Monster Kill, City Development, Resource Gathering, Troop Training, and Power Increase.  Stage 5 is almost always Kill Event (KE).  Check the Monarch Event every day to see what event it is.  Fill up the meter for rewards and especially gems.

Monster Kill.  The best way to fill up the meter on Monster Kill day is actually to hit a bunch of monsters that are NOT Boss Monsters.  This is a common mistake that people make.  They think, "It is Monster Kill.  I'll run a bunch of rallies."  Although this benefits the entire alliance if they play all day and run rallies together, this is not the most efficient way to get the Monster Kill meter to fill up.  This is because each rally may take anywhere from 5 1/2 minutes to 20 or more minutes depending on who is running it and how far the monster is away from the Alliance City.  Meanwhile, I can hit about 3-5 regular monsters in a minute depending on my how many marches you can run at a time.  So hit the biggest regular monsters you can and watch as your meter fills up fast.  If you have ports, port to other areas so you can kill monsters in rapid-fire succession.

City Development.  Only two ways to fill up the meter.  Finish upgrading buildings or finish research at the academy.  This event is usually hit or miss.  Either you have buildings you can finish quickly with speedups and get the meter filled up, or you have upgraded a bunch of really high level buildings and you have nothing you can complete fast.  The only tip I can give on this one is to stagger your building upgrades.  You can have up to 3 builders going at one time.  Make sure you have the ones you spend gems on upgrading your really big building upgrades, the ones that take weeks to upgrade.  Then have your free builder always upgrading your smaller, lower level buildings.  In that way, when City Development Day comes, you can quickly speed up your free builder and complete a building project.  Then upgrade another smaller one and speed it up, and so on.  Research is almost no help unless you are researching something really big and you have saved lots of speedups for just such an occasion.  So if you save your Research speedups for City Development Day and then speed through a bunch of really big research categories, you might fill up your meter that way also.  (Make sure you have gold to spend, though, because big research costs big money.)

Resource Gathering.  Probably one of the most groan-worthy Monarch Events, you have to fill up your meter by sending your troops to resource and gem tiles (other than the Alliance Resource).  In order to really fill up your meter as fast as you can, it is best to send some marches to gem mines and some to regular resource mines.  Gem mines give you the biggest bang for your buck, but they are coveted by everyone on Resource Gathering day and some people might just be jerks and tile hit you (attack you while on a resource or gem tile).  Gem mining also usually takes a LONG time, so your troops may sit on a gem mine literally the entire day.  Still, it is usually the only way to fill up your meter.  I typically send at least one march to a gem mine and then all my remaining marches to regular resource tiles.  Tip: You don't need to send your best troops to "farm" resources.  Find out how much Troop Power you need and only send that much in Troop Power with your lowest level troops.  That way, if they get attacked, you only lose your weak troops and not your best troops.  Troop Power is the cart icon on your March screen in the lower right side above the March button.  See what the recommended value is before you hit Reset and then select as many troops as you need from your weaker troops to get that value back up to where it was before you hit Reset.

Troop Training and Power Increase.  Both of these are grouped together because the fastest way to fill up your meter for both is to create troops.  That's really it.  Basically, make troops until your meter is full.  Then you get gems.  The only difference between the two is that with Power Increase you can also do a few other things to increase the meter including heal wounded troops, increase a General's Power Level by increasing their level, adding better equipment, etc., increasing your Monarch's Level, and so on.  Still, ultimately, the fastest way to succeed in both is just make troops.

Kill Event (KE).  Stage 5 is almost always KE, Kill Event!  It lasts 2-3 days, I can't remember which it is now.  This is the event all players should fear every week unless they are super powerful.  Players from all over the server will begin to hunt for other players' cities that they can attack.  Some players will look for resource tiles they can hit also, which is called Tile Hitting.  During KE, many servers allow Tile Hitting, but even if they don't, there is always someone on every server who does not respect the No Tile Hitting rule.  So KE is never a good time to do any farming on resource tiles except the Alliance Resource.  To fill up your meter, hit everyone and everything that is unbubbled.  If you see a sub city and it belongs to a player you think you can kill, hit it!  Many times players link their sub cities to their main cities, and if you hit a sub city you will hit their main as well.  However, there is a risk.  Some players may have more troops than you think at their main city, so you might think you can beat them based on their Keep level, or their Sub City level, but they may be far more powerful than you think they are.

Watchtowers are important for participating in KE or in any PVP battles.  Watchtowers give you the ability to scout an enemy's city to learn how strong they really are.  The higher the level that the Watchtower is, the more information you can get.  It is always wise to scout someone, if you can, before hitting them in case looks are deceiving.  As I said above, they may be the same level as you, but they might have way more troops defending their city than you can handle.  I once had a level 25 Keep wipe out my level 27 Keep simply because he had over a million T10 troops while I had only 450,000 troops.  One attack on his city wiped out my best troops because I could only send 120,000 T11s at a time.  1.2 million T10s is plenty to take out 120,000 T11s.

BEWARE!!!  Any time you attack another player, whether on a resource tile or their sub city or their main city, your Bubble will drop.  This means that you are exposed to attack yourself.  That means that while you are hitting an enemy, one of their allies might come and hit you, or they may immediately attack you as well.  This is the risk you take when you participate in KE or SVS, or if you are just going around and attacking people.  Always make sure you have at least 1 Bubble item ready to use whenever you go attacking other people so that you can throw your Bubble up as soon as possible.

Other Tips and Tricks to PVP:  The best way to attack other players is to port in next to them, right up next to their keep, and then hit them fast.  If you are afraid you can't kill them, send an alternate account to Scout them first.  If you don't have one, and you are really afraid about taking time to scout them first, attack them with lower level troops first to just see what kind of defenses they have.  You can see what defenses they have in battle reports that will show up in your mail as soon as you either succeed in the attack or fail it.  At least lower level troops take less resources to heal and they also don't take as long in the hospital.

This being said, Scouting is really the best way to check how tough your enemy is if you have a high enough Watchtower, because scouting is faster and you don't potentially lose any troops.  Also, if you do wind up getting zeroed (all your troops get wounded), your hospital can only hold so many troops.  Do you want those troops to be your weak troops or your tough troops?  If you hit them with lower level troops first, they take up hospital space that could be reserved for your tougher troops.  So attacking with lower level troops is really only a last ditch effort to scout before you send in your best.  It's just slower and you may get a lot of healing from it.

Watch your March countdown.  If you spot an enemy port in next to you while you are hitting someone else, don't panic.  As soon as your March to Attack Countdown reaches 0, tap on your city, tap City Buffs, Truce Agreements, and then activate an 8 hour truce agreement (or whatever Bubble you can put up quickly).  You cannot put up a Truce Agreement while your troops are Marching towards an enemy, but as soon as the March is over, as they are returning to your city, you can Bubble Up again.  You don't need to wait for them to get all the way back to your city.  This is a good way to save your best troops who just got done smacking an enemy city.

You can also send out all troops in your city on marches.  So if someone ports next to you while you are hitting someone else, and you have troops still in your city, quickly tap on any tile and send your troops out to occupy it.  Do this until all your troops are off the city.  If you do this, however, your enemy can also hit your troops on tiles, so as soon as they occupy the tile, return them to your city.  If you time your marches right, you can save all your troops, or most of them, using this method.  However, if your enemy times his/her marches just right, they could still wipe you out completely.

Remember, you can only port when ALL troops are back in the city, so don't try to port to escape an enemy if you have troops marching.  Even if they are returning to the city, you can't port until they have completely arrived.  Most aggressive players are good at timing attacks to hit your troops when they finally return, so porting is usually not good.  However, it is what people typically try to do as soon as they see an enemy port in.  Then they panic and die.

So only port after you've bubbled, and try to make sure that if you sent out additional marches that they are all returning when your main attack force is returning so you can bubble while everyone is returning to your city.

If you have no bubble and you are being either Scouted or Attacked, or your troops are on some sort of resource tile and someone initiates an attack against them, your screen will suddenly turn red and a Bell icon will appear at the bottom of the screen.

To quickly save your city, if you are unbubbled, either bubble up before the attack can reach you use a Random City Port or Advanced Port, or send out your troops on marches.  Sending out your troops won't save your resources, but it will at least save you from healing all your troops.

Again, though, you cannot port if you have ANY troops outside of your city, so if you are unbubbled and farming, mining, etc., you will be completely exposed to attack, both your city and the troops on your resource tile.  The only way to save your troops on a resource tile is to recall them.  Tap on the resource tile and select Return to recall them.  If you are quick enough, you will save them.  Remember to Bubble up as soon as your troops are all returning to your city.

Once you create an Embassy, other members of your alliance can send you resources and can reinforce your city.  This means that if you are unbubbled and you are attacked you may have a chance that one of your alliance members can tap on your city and select Reinforce, and they might be able to send you extra troops to defend you.  Doing this, however, is a risk to the alliance member.  This is because any troops they send to reinforce you are able to be wounded, captured or killed.  I don't care how many they send you, if the enemy is tough enough, your alliance member and you will lose their troops on your city, so don't get angry with your alliance members if no one protects your city while your bubble is down.  Nine times out of ten, the person who attacked you is way stronger than your alliance members, and if they reinforced you they would lose all their troops too.

Keeping this in mind, however, if you are unbubbled and you are afraid you may lose all your troops, especially during KE, you can notify an alliance member that you are Reinforcing them, and then send your troops to that person for the duration of the war.  In that way, if someone hits your city they won't kill your troops.  They'll still get your resources, but they won't kill all your troops as well.  You can Reinforce several people at once if you have enough marches, so it is possible to save all your troops by reinforcing people.

BE WARNED!!!  If the person you are reinforcing Ports for any reason, your troops will be sent back to your city.  That is why notifying the person before Reinforcing them is essential.  Also, if your main city is hit 10 times, it will be force ported, meaning your city will immediately teleport somewhere else on the map after the 10th attack.  If this happens, your troops return to your city, and if the enemy player uses an Arrest Warrant, they can locate you again and come and finish you off, killing all your troops.  So even the above method is not full proof to save your troops during KE or SVS.  Only being bubbled can truly protect them.

Sending resources to another player is not efficient either, so if you have a lot of resources in your city, stay Bubbled.  There is a heavy Tax involved with each transaction.  It is usually 40%.  So if I send someone 1 Million Food, they only receive 400k.  There is also now a limit to how much you can send to a single person in a day, so keep this in mind if you know you are going to be unbubbled and you have a lot of resources to give away.  You can also Store resources in the Alliance Warehouse or Donate them to the Warehouse if you really need to give away a lot, and you don't get taxed on Storing or Donating.  Your alliance will likely not mind any of these methods of sharing your resources.

Long Marches is also a tactic used when unbubbled to protect your troops for long periods of time, but it is not very effective, and most newer players will try this and get slaughtered.  Your city is still exposed to being attacked, and your resources are exposed to being stolen, but at least your troops will not all die...or so this is the thought.  However, keep in mind, if you are attacked 10 times all your troops will still return to your city and be exposed to attack, so this is not the most efficient way of trying to protect your troops while unbubbled.  In fact, unless you turn off march lines in the Options Menu, in the Main Menu, everyone will see your super long march lines, follow them back to your keep and see that you are unbubbled.  Then they will know you are exposed to getting your troops annihilated and hit your city 10 times just to port you and bring your troops back.  Then they will attack you and wipe them all out.

Ghosting is a far better solution to Long Marches, and it is very similar.  Ghosting is the term used for when players purposely do Boss Rallies to protect their troops.  Here's how it works:

1. Select a Boss Monster or Enemy Player on the World Map.  Depending on the circumstances, pick one near you or one all the way across the map.  If you need to protect your troops fast, select one nearby, if you need to protect your troops for a really long period of time, select one far away.  Keep in mind, you can't port while your troops are out, so if you pick one far away and you need to port, you're doomed.

2. Select Alliance War, then Select 60 minutes, then all your best troops and then March.  What this does is it causes all your troops to rally for 60 minutes.  While they rally, they are safe from attack.  No matter how many times anyone hits you, your troops are safe while rallying.  Selecting 60 minutes also tells your fellow alliance members that you are Ghosting as opposed to actually running a rally, and it gives you 60 minutes to cancel the rally.  So you're safe the entire time.  To quickly Ghost, make sure you have plenty of stamina available so you aren't delayed by having to increase your stamina before you march.  In PVP, every split second counts!  If you do this for a long march, remember to turn off March lines in the Options Menu.  That way if someone sees your troops marching they won't be able to trace it back to your keep.  They may have a general idea where it is, but it is much harder to find your keep without march lines.

Ghosting will allow you to protect your troops for hours, if you manage it right.  Again, however, if you are force ported after getting hit 10 times, your troops will return to your city and be exposed, so it isn't a replacement for Bubbles.  Still, if you can't Bubble, Ghost on Long Marches.  Your troops will take 60 minutes to rally, and depending on your march speed they may take an hour or so to get to their destination and an hour or so to get back.  (Just make sure you pick a monster you can kill or you will wind up with lots of healing anyway, and don't forget to turn off your March Lines!)
